Here's how an ETC solar water heater generally operates:

Evacuated Tubes: The system comprises multiple parallel rows of evacuated tubes. Evacuated tubes are essentially glass tubes with a vacuum between the inner and outer layers. This vacuum acts as an excellent insulator, minimizing heat loss to the surroundings.

Absorber Tube: Inside each evacuated tube, there is an absorber tube that is usually coated with a selective absorbing material. This coating enhances the tube's ability to absorb sunlight efficiently. The absorber tube heats up when exposed to sunlight.

Heat Pipe: The absorber tube is connected to a heat pipe, which is a sealed copper tube containing a small amount of working fluid or refrigerant. As the absorber tube heats up, the working fluid inside the heat pipe vaporizes and rises to the condenser section.

Condenser: At the top of the heat pipe, the vaporized working fluid releases its heat to the water or heat transfer fluid circulating through the condenser. This heat transfer causes the vapor to condense back into a liquid.

Circulation of Fluid: The heated water or heat transfer fluid then flows to a storage tank, where it can be used for domestic or industrial purposes. The storage tank is often well-insulated to minimize heat loss.

As water in the vacuum tube is heated, it rise naturally in to the storage tank, at the same time cold water in tank flow down to the vacuum tube, causing circulation throughout the thermosyphon system.
